(Oakland, IA) — Riverside earned a basketball doubleheader sweep over CAM on Thursday night in a non-conference match up.
The Bulldog girls won in sloppy offensive game 36-30. Neither team could get a shooting rhythm going thanks to Riverside’s pressure defense and CAM’s 1-3-1 zone. Riverside shot 19 percent from the field in the first half while CAM shot 14 percent and the Bulldogs led 16-8 at the half and 24-19 at the end of three quarters. Adaline Martens for Riverside only averages 3.5 points a game but had 3 baskets in the 2nd quarter and hit a big three pointer early in the 4th period, just her third three of the year. The Bulldogs were only 7-16 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter but CAM could not take advantage.
Martens led Riverside (13-2) with 12 points. Kayden Schnack had 10.
Courtney Follmann led CAM (8-7) with 11, Ada Hansen had 9 and Ruthie Rich added 7.
In the boys game, Riverside took control in the 2nd quarter and ran away from CAM in the 2nd half winning 73-45. The first quarter was a shootout with Riverside leading 14-13 — Peyton Amdor and Owen Fenner each had 6 points in the 2nd quarter and the Bulldogs began to get some separation leading 35-26 at the half. Riverside used a 10-0 run in the third quarter sparked by Amdor’s 10 points to build an insurmountable lead.
Amdor led the way with 24 for Riverside (8-6) to break a 4 game losing steak. Cole Jeppeson had 13 and Fenner added 11. Brody and Dawson Henderson each had 8.
Gunnar Hoguieson led CAM (5-8) with 19 points and Collin Bower added 12.
