(Corning, IA) — For the 71st year, Southwest Valley will host the John J. Harris boys wrestling tournament this Friday and Saturday, coverage on KSOM, KS 95 and Western Iowa Today TV.
The Timberwolves did not get anyone on the podium last year but Head Coach Cody Konechne has some hopeful grapplers this year. At 165 pounds, Gavin Wetzel is ranked 10th and is 33-7 this season. He beat Harlan’s Brody Bendorf in sudden death last weekend and Konechne says he is getting better as the season progresses
Sophomore Degan Farwell is 25-10 and Konechne says he is much better after getting his weight under control
Sophomore Ben Waddell is 30-11 which is a big change from going 19-26 last year
Also for Southwest Valley, Freshman Griffin Wetzel is 28-13, Junior Carson Cooper is 26-15, and Senior Brody Sparks is 21-15. Sophomore Wyatt Shires is 14-7 and Junior Brody Crozier is 15-6 and both have been battling injuries.
