(Pottawattamie Co.) Laura Monson, Education Coordinator for East and West Pottawattamie County Soil and Water Conservation Districts, presented her annual review to the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
Monson visits the AHSTW, Riverside, Tri-Center, Treynor, and Underwood schools, as well as several schools in Council Bluffs. She said that in the past year alone, 1,496 students participated in in-class programs, and a total of 2,050 students were involved when including field days, summer camps, and other events.
Outside of the classroom, Monson is involved in the STEM Fests.
Monson noted, the Conservation Districts of Iowa poster contest theme this year was “Home Is Where the Habitat Is,” and two students placed at the regional level.
Monson said she was also involved in field days at Botna Bend Park, Treynor Arbor Days/Mulch Madness, School of the Wild, Soil Pit Practice Judging, summer camps, community outreach events, she had a station at Carstens Farm Kids Day and booths at the Fairs.
Monson said summer camp registration is now open and scholarships are available for students heading to college.
