Both Nebraska basketball teams were in action on Wednesday night and the #7 ranked men beat Washington 76-66 while Wisconsin upset the 24th ranked women 63-60.
In the men’s contest in Lincoln, the Huskers were up 19-17 and went on a 13-2 run sparked by Pryce Sandfort with 8 points including two threes. Washington cut the lead to 8 but Sam Hoilberg drilled a triple and got a lay up to give Nebraska a 41-28 lead at the half.
The Huskers pushed their lead to 55-37 in the first 5 minutes of the second half — the Huskies went on a 7-0 run before Sandfort hit another three to make it 58-44 with 11:09 left. Moments later, Rienk Mast hit another three — Nebraska had 11 on the night — to lead 61-44 midway through the 2nd half. Washington never got the lead under double digits and made a small run late but much too late.
Sandfort led Nebraska (19-0, 8-0) with 23 points, going 4-7 from three point land. Hoiberg had 14, Mast 12, and Jamaques Lawrence added 11.
Washington (10-9, 2-6) was led by Hannes Steinbach with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Zoom Diallo added 18.
In the women’s game, Nebraska led by five with 3:45 remaining but went 1-7 from the field the rest of the game. The Badgers Kyrah Daniels hit a three pointer to tie the game at 60-60 with 1:54 left and hit the go ahead free throw a minute later. After a Husker turnover, Gift Uchenna hit two free throws with 53 seconds left. Nobody would score the rest of the game.
Uchenna led Wisconsin (13-7, 5-4) with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Daniels had 19 points and 8 rebounds. Ronnie Porter added 10.
Nebraska (14-5, 3-5) was led by Amiah Hargrove with 15 points off the bench, Eliza Maupin had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Britt Prince added 11.
