(Guthrie Center, IA) — On Monday night, AC/GC swept CAM in a basketball doubleheader. The girls won 61-41 and the boys were victorious 69-54.
In the girls game, AC/GC built a 20-12 lead after one quarter thanks to a full court pressing defense. CAM stepped up their 1-3-1 zone in the 2nd quarter and cut the lead to 29-24 at the break. Then the Chargers would find Stella Largent in the middle of that zone and she hit three baskets in the 3rd quarter plus AC/GC added three threes from the outside — they extended their lead to 44-36 and then Largent added 10 more points in the final period to put the game away.
Largent had a career high 25 points to lead AC/GC. Cam Richter added 15 points including 8-10 from the free throw line. Karli Kautzky added 7 for AC/GC (10-3).
Ada Hansen had 15 points to lead CAM (7-6) and Ruthie Rich added 14.
On the boys side, AC/GC led most of the way but CAM was in the game until the 2nd half. Tommy Skram for the Chargers had 20 points in the first half including 11 in the opening quarter — the Chargers led 18-11 after one, 31-25 at the half. In the third quarter, Preston Kent got hot — hitting three threes and 13 in the period. AC/GC led 55-40 going to the 4th and won easily.
Skram led AC/GC (4-8) with 27 points, Joe Crawford had 20 and Kent 18.
CAM (4-7) was led by Collin Bower and Calen Anstey each with 12, Braxton Dennis had 11 and Carson McKee added 8.
