(Iowa City, IA) — In a battle of ranked teams on Sunday, one team’s win streak got extended and the other’s ended. #11 Iowa beat #15 Michigan St. 75-68 in a Big Ten women’s basketball game.
The Hawkeyes extended their winning streak to 6 games and remain undefeated in conference play while the Spartans 9 game win streak came to an end.
Iowa led 41-29 at the half and extended their advantage to 53-36 about midway through the 3rd quarter. Michigan St. began to chip away and cut it to 65-56 going to the 4th. The Spartans got it all the way down to 5 — 71-66 Iowa held the lead with 3:28 left.
After an Iowa timeout, Hannah Stuelke hit a short jumper and both teams missed opportunities until Ava Heiden was fouled with 45 seconds left and put the game away with 2 free throws.
Grace Van Slooten led Michigan St. (17-2,6-2) with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Jalyn Brown had 16 and Juliann Woodard added 14 going 4-6 on her threes.
Iowa (16-2, 7-0) was led by Stuelke with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, Heiden had 20 points, and Chazidi Wright added 11.
