(Iowa City, IA) — Number 11 Iowa used a strong third quarter to beat Oregon 74-66 in a Big Ten women’s basketball game on Thursday night.
The Hawkeyes led 36-31 at the half and then outscored the Ducks 24-13 in the third quarter to take control — Taylor McCabe started the 2nd half with a three pointer. The teams traded lay-ups and after Oregon’s Ehis Etute made two free throws, Chazidi Wright drilled a three and after a Duck turnover, Hannah Stuelke made a 19 footer and Iowa led 46-35. Addie Deal hit a triple with 1:30 left in the third and Steulke added a short jumper and the Hawkeyes led 60-44 at the end of three.
Oregon tried to mount a comeback — Etute scored 5 straight to spark an 8-0 run to get the game into single digits. However, Ava Heiden hit two big shots in final two minutes to seal the win.
Etute was the only player in double figures for Oregon (14-5, 2-4) finishing with 15 points, 13 came in the 2nd half and added 8 rebounds. Leading scorer Katie Fiso was held to 9 on a 4-16 shooting night.
Iowa (15-2, 6-0) was led by both Deal and Stuelke with 18 points each — Stuelke came close to a triple double with 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Deal was a perfect 4-4 from three point land. Heiden had 13 and Kylie Feuerbach added 11. With the win, the Hawkeyes moved into a first place tie with UCLA in the conference.
