The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released its newest rankings. With Newell Fonda’s win on Tuesday night over St. Albert, the two teams have flip flopped spots in the 1A rankings. Newell Fonda is now #1, Bishop Garrigan stays at #2 and St. Albert goes down to #3. Exira EHK stays at the important #8 spot — the top 8 teams are the most likely to be top seeds in the regionals.
Rock Valley is the new #1 in Class 2A after Treynor got upset by Riverside. The Cardinals plummeted all the way to #7 while the Bulldogs went from #9 to #6. Nodaway Valley made it into the ranking for the first time at #14 after they beat Mount Ayr. The Raiders stayed at #15 despite the loss. AC/GC dropped out of the rankings after losing to Exira EHK on Saturday.
The three largest schools stayed pretty much the same — Maquoketa is #1 in Class 3A with Des Moines Christian #2; Clear Creek Amana is #1 in 4A; and Johnston is #1 in 5A.
