(Anita, IA) — When the girls wrestling state tournament comes in the first week of February, SWAT’s Stella Beattie expects to be there. She was not last season after an impressive 38-5 record, Beattie lost in the wrestleback round at regionals ending her season. All season long last year, Beattie thought she would be going to state and then she didn’t. That drove her this off-season
Last night, Beattie went 5-0 with 2 matches both wins by fall and the rest forfeits improving her record to 24-0 this season. Beattie started wrestling thanks to a random encounter with the sport while going out to dinner
In middle school, Beattie had to wrestle against the boys but her Dad always supported her and when she got to CAM High School, she joined SWAT
Beattie’s freshman season went well — she went 23-13 and made it to state where she went 0-2. The record improved as a Sophomore but then disappointment hit during the regionals. Now she is in the middle of her junior season and she is wrestling better than ever. She won her first match of this season by tech fall and every match since then has been by fall, 12 of which have been in under a minute. Before this year’s regionals, Beattie says she has to do a couple of things to get herself ready
Next up for SWAT is the Northwest Invite at Waukee Northwest this Saturday. They will compete at the Atlantic Girls tournament on Saturday, January 24 and will be at Atlantic for the girls regionals on Friday, January 30.
