(Neola, IA) — AHSTW visited Tri Center on Monday night in a Western Iowa Conference DH and the Lady Vikes won the first game while the Trojans pulled away from the Vikings in the nightcap.
The AHSTW girls led the whole way with a defense that did not give the Trojans a lot of shooting opportunities, winning 46-27 The Vikes used a full court press but it was their halfcourt defense that forced Tri Center to take some outside shots which is out of their comfort zone. Ava Paulsen hit some big threes to lead the Vikes with 13 points, Macey Goshorn had three threes for 11 total points, and Addison Carroll put in 10. Clara Pace added 8.
Tri Center was led by Macie Schneckloth with 12 points but they fell to 4-6 while AHSTW is now 7-5.
The Tri Center boys were heavy favorites and won it 63-54 but AHSTW kept it close most of the game. The Trojans led 19-15 after the first quarter but Dayton Osbahr had 9 points in the first half and the Vikings kept it close only trailing 33-31 at the half. Kayden Sandbothe had 8 points in the third quarter for the Vikings and it was Tri Center leading 45-44 going to the final quarter.
In the 4th, AJ Harder took over the game with a three to start the quarter. After a Viking miss, Harder got an offensive rebound and laid it in to lead 50-44. Parker Krohn got an offensive rebound and put back to cut the lead to 4 but the Trojans pounced on a Viking miss and Cael Witt got a basket in transition. After a Viking turnover, Witt got another lay-up and Tri Center was able to hold off AHSTW the rest of the quarter.
AJ Harder led the way for Tri Center with 27 points. Tyler Baatz had 11. Brody Weidner and Cael Witt each added 7.
Collin Harder led AHSTW with 13 points, Evan Harder had 11, Dayton Osbahr with 9 and Kayden Sandbothe had 8.
Tri Center is now 10-0 while AHSTW falls to 2-9.
