Officer-Involved Shooting In West Liberty During Domestic Disturbance Investigation
(West Liberty, IA) — An officer-involved shooting in West Liberty leaves one man injured on Sunday. Police responded to a home on the 500 block of North Elm Street around 6:45 a.m. for a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived, they discovered the man holding a knife. Officers say when he moved toward them, they initially tried to tase him, but it did not work before one officer opened fire. The condition of the man shot was not released.
Crash In Des Moines Ruptures Gas Line
(Des Moines, IA) — A crash in Des Moines is forcing repairs after a natural gas line ruptures. It happened on Sunday near the intersection of East 16th Street and East Grand Avenue. A temporary road closure was put in place as crews worked to repair the line. At least one person was injured in the crash. Officials did not release the severity of those injuries.
Sioux City To Auction 42 Parcels Of Parkland
(Sioux City, IA) — Sioux City is posting 42 parcels of land for sale over the next few weeks. Some of the land has been maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department. Neighborhood Services Manager Jill Wanderscheid says many of the lots are in residential areas and expected to be filled with residential buildings. Some of the lots are expected to house multi-family units. The total land area is about 9.5 acres.
Fundraising Event Held For Pierson Fire Department Chief
(Kingsley, IA) — Several communities attend a fundraiser for a fire chief whose home was damaged in November. In a twist of irony, Pierson Fire Department Chief Lucas Ploen’s home was damaged during a fire. Kingsley Fire Chief Brandon Sitzmann says it’s important for the communities to come together and support their neighbor. He says Lucas is an asset to both communities, and they want to support him wherever they can. The event was held at the Kinglsey Community Center, and attendees were served a pork loin meal while participating in a silent auction.
