(Avoca, IA) — Audubon took control of their boys basketball game with AHSTW on Friday in the 2nd half and won in a conference showdown 65-53.
It was a back and forth game until about midway in the third quarter. Audubon led 17-15 after one quarter; AHSTW led 30-28 at the half. Brody Weber started the third quarter for the Wheelers with a three point play to take the lead. Evan Harder answered with a three for the Vikings to take back the lead 33-31. Aiden Kjergaard answered back with a three of his own and the Wheelers led 34-33. After Kaden Jorgensen hit 1-2 free throws for AHSTW to tie it at 34-34, Audubon had a couple misses but got offensive rebounds and Brody Schultes was fouled and got 2 free throws to make it 36-34 and the Wheelers never trailed from there. Audubon went on a 15-7 run the rest of the quarter to take a 51-41 lead.
Kjergaard led Audubon (7-6) with 23 points including three threes. Austin Christensen added 12; Sullivan McClain had 9 off the bench; Carson Wessel and Jorgen Nowatzke each had 8.
Collin Harder had a hot shooting touch to lead AHSTW (2-7) with 20 points; Jorgensen had 11 and Dayton Osbahr added 10.
