(Oakland, IA) — Athletic Director and Football Head Coach Darrell Frain will take early retirement and step away from his duties at Riverside High School at the end of this school year. Frain hopes to continue coaching in some way for the Bulldogs but it will not be as a head coach for now. He will enjoy spending more time with his family but is not sure what he will do full time
Frain will leave the football job with a career record of 38-35 in 8 years with three playoff teams in 2020 and the last two seasons. Frain says the challenges for the new coach in 2026 will depend on which direction Riverside goes in
Frain spent 26 years at Creston before coming back closer to home and running the Riverside athletic program. He says it was not easy when he first took the job
The jobs for athletic director and football head coach have been posted but Frain is not sure whether he will be involved in the selection of his successor — whether it be one person or two.
