(Shelby Co.) The Shelby County Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of the new year on Friday.
According to the meeting minutes, Charles Parkhurst was named chairman of the board for 2026, and Mike Kolbe was named vice chairman.
The supervisors considered a 1% wage increase for calendar year 2026 for qualifying employees. The increase was approved.
The board also approved several appointments to boards and committees, including the appointment of Scott Markham as county medical examiner, Jay Ring as weed commissioner, Taryn Knapp as general assistance director, and Paulette Madson to the Conservation Board for a four-year term.
The following days shall constitute paid holidays for all eligible employees for the 2026 year: Presidents’ Day (Monday, February 16), Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), Independence Day (Observed Friday, July 3), Labor Day (Monday, September 7), Veterans’ Day (Wednesday, November 11), Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26), Friday after Thanksgiving (November 27), Christmas Eve (Thursday, December 24), Christmas Day (Friday, December 25), and New Year’s Day (Friday, January 1).
Bids for the Shelby County–owned farm and the Solid Waste Farm were also accepted. Farm ground rent bids for the 2026 crop year were opened at the December 16 meeting. The high bidder for the Shelby County Solid Waste Farm was Craig Weis at $380 per acre for 108 acres, as stated in the contract and published notices. The Shelby County–owned farm received a high bid of $390 per acre for 146 acres, also submitted by Craig Weis. Both bids were approved unanimously.
The Shelby County Board of Supervisors will hold their regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
