(Audubon, IA) — In a non-conference match up, Audubon was able to pull away in the 4th quarter in a tight game to beat Red Oak 63-53 in a boys basketball game on KSOM on Monday night.
It was close most of the way — Audubon led 15-12 at the end of the 1st quarter and it was tied 25-25 at the half. The Tigers hit 4 three pointers in the third quarter — two each from Reeese Montgomery and AJ Beeson to stay with Audubon who led 39-37 going to the 4th.
Beeson hit a three pointer to start the final quarter and Red Oak led 40-39 but Austin Christensen came back and hit a three, just his 2nd three of the year and the Wheelers went back in front 42-40. After a Beeson missed three, Christensen missed a long jumper but Jorgen Nowatzke got the rebound and put it back in to make it 44-40. After a missed shot by Red Oak, Nowatzke drove again and banked it in to make it 46-40. That was the lead that Audubon needed and they held it — going 10-11 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter. Nowatzke hit 4 in a row and had 8 points in the final quarter and 15 for the game.
Christensen also had 15 points for Audubon (5-5) while Aiden Kjergaard had 13 points and Carson Wessel and Brody Weber each added 8. The Wheelers won despite going 3-15 from three point land.
Montgomery led Red Oak (3-6) with 21 points while Carson Roeder finished with 13 and Beeson added 11.
