Police say an officer witnessed a fight early yesterday outside of the Odd Fellows bar. A man shot another person. The officer then shot the gunman, leaving him dead. The victim was also pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police were called to the scene on Eighth Street Southwest around 12:30 a.m. Authorities say the 36-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a Des Moines hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Authorities In Arkansas Find Vehicle Belonging To Missing Tama County Man
(Oark, AR) — Authorities in Arkansas are joining the search for an Iowa man who has not been seen since before Christmas. The Johnson County, Arkansas Sheriff’s Office says they found a car belonging to Nicholas Collins last week. The area where the vehicle was located is about 60 miles southeast of Fayetteville and is part of the Ozark National Forest. Law enforcement officials in Tama County say Collins has not been seen since he took off from his home in Garwin on December 19th, leaving a note saying he was “going away for a while.”
Northwest Iowa Woman Wanted For Escaping Treatment Facility Found In Attic
(Laurens, IA) — A Northwest Iowa woman who reportedly escaped from a residential treatment center is in custody after she was found in her attic. Officials with the Pocahontas Police Department say 21-year-old Jackie Nehring was arrested Saturday after officers spotted her hiding in the home’s insulation. Nehring had several warrants out for her arrest related to the escape and a fraudulent practice charge. Investigators are also working to figure out who assisted Nehring when she fled from the treatment center.

Cases are rising faster and earlier this year. The new Iowa Department of Health report released late last week shows a Very High level of influenza cases, already as high as the peak last year and higher than two years ago – and a month or more sooner. The flu season usually peaks in February or early March.
