(Lincoln, NE) — The Nebraska football team will have a new quarterback next season and former Notre Dame back up Kenny Minchey will be the favorite to be under center. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Minchey will transfer to play football for the Huskers. The redshirt sophomore will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Minchey lost the QB competition with CJ Carr last fall and threw just 26 passes for the Fighting Irish this past season. He did have 84 rushing yards and 1 TD. Minchey is from Hendersonville, Tennessee and was a 4 star recruit ranked by 247/Sports Composite — he was ranked the 14th best quarterback in his recruiting class.
Nebraska lost Dylan Raiola to the transfer portal so it was expected that Head Coach Matt Rhule would seek out a new quarterback. When Raiola went down with a season ending injury, redshirt freshman TJ Lateef had mixed results as the starter. Nebraska lost their final three games of the season including a Las Vegas Bowl game to Utah, all by blowouts. Lateef is expected to return to Nebraska and more than likely will compete with Minchey for the starting position next season.
Rhule will be looking elsewhere to improve a football team that has gone 7-6 in back to back seasons.
