(Iowa City, IA) — The Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked 25th and they held off a feisty UCLA men’s basketball team on Saturday, winning 74-61.
With the game tied at 6-6, Iowa went on a 14-1 run to take control of the game early. Alvaro Folguerias hit three three pointers in the run including back to back triples to spark it and had 13 points off the bench.
Bennett Stirtz had a monster game for Iowa — finishing with a game high 27 points including 8-10 from the field, 4-6 from three point land and 7-7 from the free throw line. Isaia Howard had 11 points and Tavion Banks added 10.
Iowa (12-2, 2-1) shot 47 percent for the game and 8-26 from threes. They did have 14 turnovers to 12 for the Bruins but outrebounded UCLA 32-27 and the Bruins were a dreadful 3-14 on their three point shooting.
Donovan Dent led UCLA (10-4, 2-1) with 25 points.
