(Oakland, IA) — Riverside had a non-conference basketball doubleheader with Sidney on Saturday and the Bulldogs dominated both games.
On the girls side, the Bulldogs raced out to a 15-3 lead and won 53-23. Riverside struggled in their three point shooting going 3-21 from the field. However, their pressure defense created multiple turnovers and the Cowgirls could never settle down and run their normal offense. Sidney had just 7 made baskets in the game while the Bulldogs had a balanced scoring attack — Sydney Somers and Sophia Fenner each led with 12 points. Azlyn Clark had 8 off the bench; Karlie Miller added 7 for Riverside (8-1).
Alyssa Dowling had 8 points to lead Sidney (2-5) in a losing effort.
In the boys game, Carter Jorgensen for the Cowboys hit a three pointer to open the game but Riverside went on an 11-0 run after that and cruised to a 77-24 victory. The Bulldogs were red hot from the field — shooting 31-61 for 51 percent including 10-29 from three point land. Peyton Amdor led the way with 20 points. Cole Jeppsesen and Brody Henderson each had 14 while Grant Richardson and Cruz Jacquez each added 6 points. Riverside (7-2) had just 6 turnovers to 27 for Sidney.
Sidney (2-5) was led by Jorgensen with 12 points while Aiden Stenzel added 8.
