(Avoca, IA) — One of the reasons that AHSTW alum Luke Sternberg decided to go to Iowa Western Community College to play football was a chance to compete for a national championship. That came to fruition a couple of weeks ago when the Reivers went down to Texas and beat Hutchinson College 28-10 to win the National Junior College Football national title for the 4th time. Sternberg says it is something he will never forget
Sternberg was a freshman defensive back for the Reivers and did not get much playing time — he was back-up to a group of players that are all going to major college football programs next year
The transfer portal opens up this Friday and it will be decision time for Sternberg — does he come back to Iowa Western and fight for playing time which is not guaranteed or does he have an opportunity elsewhere
Iowa Western has been to five straight JC national championships and Head Coach Steve Strohmeier has a high turnover rate each and every year but Sternberg says they find a way to bring everybody together holding everybody to a higher standard
Sternberg is looking at majoring in business wherever he goes to school and would like to coach high school sports one day.
