(Kansas City, MO) — Just because the Kansas City Chiefs are not going to the playoffs, it does not mean that Head Coach Andy Reid is hanging it up. Despite the disappointing season, the 67 year old announced on Monday that he will return to the NFL team next year for his 14th season.
Kansas City goes into this week’s final regular season game with a record of 6-10 and will not make the playoffs for the first time in 11 seasons and just the 2nd time with Reid as the Chiefs Head Coach. The off season questions Reid will face will be whether star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be ready in time for opening day in 2026 — Mahomes tore the ACL in his knee two weeks ago. His back up — Gardner Minshew — tore his ACL a week later and KC is down to its third stringer Chris Oladokun who started last week against Denver and will go again this Sunday at Las Vegas. Kansas City will also have to deal with the future of Tight End Travis Kelce who is reportedly considering retirement.
According to ESPN, Reid signed a 5 year extension to his contract in 2024 for $100 million. He has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs in 2019 and back to back in 2022 and 2023. Before KC, Reid was the Head Coach the Philadelphia for 14 seasons where he won 140 games which included 4 times in the NFC Championship and once in the Super Bowl, a loss in 2004.
All time, Reid has 279 wins which ranks 4th all time in NFL history with 156 losses and a winning percentage of .641.
