(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls are coming off a solid performance at the Raccoon Valley Wrestling Tournament at ADM last weekend. The Trojans crowned two champions. Leiah Thomas claimed the top spot on the podium at 155, and Haley Armstrong remains undefeated at 19-0.
Thomas enters the second half of the season at 20-2. Thomas had three pins and a Tech Fall on her way to the individual title. Atlantic Head Coach Mike Greving says Leiah has been progressing quite well.
Coach Greving says Armstrong is a wrestler who uses a variety of strategies and has dominated the competition so far this season. Armstrong recorded three pins on her way to the title at 235.
Coach Greving has two promising freshmen: Faithlynn Scholl (135) and Josephine Miller (170). Scholl finished eighth on Saturday.
Josephine Miller (170) is 10-8 on the season. The freshman brought home the fifth-place medal. Coach Greving says what is most impressive is that this is her first year wrestling.
Coach Greving mentions Alivia Knuth (140), a second wrestler, who is also picking up some wins and continues to grow. Willow Drake (130), a freshman, is doing quite well despite making the jump from Middle school to varsity.
Coach Greving says the wrestling is a grind, and the break is a good time to fine-tune some moves. He says the season goes fast, with the State Tournament the first weekend in February. He says there is a lot of competition coming up in a short amount of time.
