(Atlantic, IA) — Teagan Kinzie is a Junior swimmer at Atlantic High School who has had success in the para competition and looking for more this year.
Christmas is the spirit of giving and Atlantic Boys Swimming Head Coach Cody McCreedy has given Teagan Kinzie a gift that will last a lifetime — he has taught him how to swim. Teagan was born with Wiedemann Steiner Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects how someone grows, learns and develops certain skills. It is difficult for someone with WSS to learn to sit, walk, talk, let alone swim. McCreedy says it took him six months to teach Teagan how to swim and it was tough for him
Teagan says it was a sense of accomplishment to learn how to swim
Teagan won the 50 meter para swimming event last year at the state tournament and last Tuesday he broke his own record in the event
Some of those comments were from coaches and other para athletes — McCreedy says that others are taking notice of Teagan’s accomplishments in the pool
The first event of every meet for Atlantic is the para swimming 50 meters. Most of the time, it is Teagan swimming by himself. After his swim, he becomes the team’s biggest cheerleader. McCreedy says Teagan’s success means the world to him
Now that Teagan has broken his record in the 50 meters, he is looking for more
Atlantic boys swimming is on winter break and Teagan Kinzie and the Trojans will next compete in a home meet on January 13.
