(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Supervisors will receive the elected Official salary recommendations from the compensation board tomorrow.
According to the agenda, the supervisors are expected to take the salary recommendations for budgetary purposes with action as necessary.
In November, the supervisors voted 3-2 to keep the Compensation Board for at least one more year. The vote came after a lengthy discussion in the previous two weeks of October.
In 2023, the Iowa legislature passed a bill granting county boards of supervisors the authority to dissolve county compensation boards. The change was pitched as providing the county supervisors with greater flexibility and local control, and as aligning salaries more directly with budget/taxpayer considerations, rather than having a separate board make recommendations.
County Compensation boards are composed of seven members who are residents of their respective counties.
*Two members are appointed by the board of supervisors
*Each of the following county officers chooses one member: the county auditor, treasurer, attorney, recorder, and county sheriff.
The regular meeting of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors starts at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, December 23, at the Courthouse Board of Supervisors’ meeting room.
