Vera “Bonnie” Haynes, 97, of Prescott, died Friday, December 19, 2025, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday December 26, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Creston. Pastor Dave Tebbenkamp will officiate the service. Services will be live streamed. Visitation will preceed the service starting at 9:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Ia. Memorials are kindly suggested to the First Baptist Church in Creston. Vera Bonita “Bonnie” Haynes, daughter of Vern Orestes Olney and Neva (Toepfer) Olney, was born on July 3, 1928, in Atlantic, Iowa. Bonnie graduated in 1947 from Jefferson High School in Portland, Oregon. On January 1, 1948, Bonnie was united in marriage to Daryl Fremont Haynes in Atlantic, Iowa. From this union they were blessed with four children, Sandra, Larry, Judy, and Dan.
The couple moved frequently before settling on their farm in Prescott, Iowa. Always a hard-worker, Bonnie had jobs in a café, candy factory, ran an AKC- registered dog kennel, sold specialty advertising products, and managed a busy family and farm. In her spare time, she collected pens, pencils, thimbles and other items. She enjoyed painting, cooking and sewing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Pencil Collectors Society.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Daryl of Osceola, Ia.; two daughters, Sandra Peterson of Prescott, Ia. and Judy (husband Rodney) McCrary of Newton, Ia.; son, Dan (wife Lori) Haynes of Boone, Ia.; eight grandchildren, Tina (husband Chris) Boswell of Corning, Ia., Ryan (wife Megan) Peterson of Pleasantville, Ia., Falon Pfalzgraff of Wash., Shawna (husband Joey) Johnson of Clive, Ia., Amy (husband Nathan) Hulett of Laurel, Ia., Alex Haynes of Chicago, Ill., Rachel (husband Mitchell) Yett of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and Nathan Haynes of Port Townsend, Wash.; and 13 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Aubrey, Gracelynn, Casen, Jade, Landon, Jordan, Silver, Amanda, Ephirum, Blake, Bruce, and Beverly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Haynes in 2004; three brothers, Kenneth (wife Evelyn) Olney, Lynn (wife Jean) Olney, and Merritt (wife Dorothy) Olney; and two sisters, Leona (husband Vern) Pate and Mary (husband Jim) Fisher.
