(Anita, IA) — CAM and Exira EHK played an afternoon basketball doubleheader on Friday and the Spartans pulled away to win the girls while the Cougars rolled in the boys game.
The girls game was for first place in the Rolling Valley Conference with Exira EHK winning 57-42. The game was close throughout the first half. CAM led 20-18 late in the 2nd quarter after a three by Courtney Follmann but the Spartans Taryn Petersen answered with back to back triples and E-EHK would never give up the lead again. The Spartans outscored the Cougars 21-10 in the third quarter and cruised to the win. Petersen led Exira EHK (6-1) 21 points and Kadence Sporrer had 14. Jaelynn Petersen added 12.
CAM (3-3) was led by Ada Hansen with 18 points, Courtney Follmann and Ailey Wahlert each had 7. CAM was just 1-12 on three pointers.
In the boys game, CAM rolled to a 72-39 victory. Kayden Winther started the game for CAM with a three and the Cougars scored the game’s first 11 points. Collin Bower had 8 points in the opening quarter and both Bower and Winther led the way with 16 points. Carson McKee had 11; Braxton Dennis and Gunnar Hogeison each added 9 for CAM (2-3).
Exira EHK (0-6) was led by Austin Rasmussen with 22 points and Bryce Brabham in his first game of the season back from injury had 10.
