(Atlantic) U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra formally announced his bid for governor of Iowa in late October. On Monday, Feenstra stopped at the Atlantic Public Library as part of his campaign tour.
During the visit, Congressman Feenstra said he wants to “take Iowa to new heights” and outlined four key visionary priorities for the state.
Feenstra’s second priority is to build a world-class education system. He pointed to his family’s background in education, noting that both of his parents and his wife have worked as educators.
Feenstra’s third goal is to keep Iowa’s youth in Iowa rather than have them leave for other states.
The congressman’s final priority centers on ensuring affordable health care for all Iowans. He said efforts are already underway at the federal level to reduce health care premiums, and emphasized that similar work must continue at the state level.
When asked about Tax Increment Financing, he described it as a tool that can benefit small communities.
Congressman Feenstra admitted urban centers are different than rural communities.
Congressman Randy Feenstra represents Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives and serves on both the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
A native of Hull, Iowa, Randy was born and raised there, where he and his wife, Lynette, raised their four children: Taylor, Erika, Dawson, and Savannah.
Before his election to Congress, Randy worked as Head of Sales for the Foreign Candy Company in Hull and later served his community as Hull City Administrator, Sioux County Treasurer, and Chairman of the Iowa Senate Ways and Means Committee. In the Iowa Senate, he authored legislation that Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law in 2017, delivering the most significant income tax reduction in Iowa’s history.
Randy has also taught business and economics at his alma mater, Dordt University. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Dordt, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Iowa State University, and, in February 2022, completed his PhD in Business and Healthcare Administration from Northcentral University. His doctoral research focused on maternal healthcare outcomes and healthcare deserts in rural America.
