(Lincoln, NE) — To nobody’s surprise, it looks like Dylan Raiola’s days as a Nebraska Cornhusker are numbered. According to a report on ESPN, the Husker QB will enter the transfer portal and will be moving to another team for next season.
The highly touted recruit will still have two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be a highly sought after player in the portal. According to the ESPN report, Raiola is looking for a program “where he can thrive and best harness his potential while developing the next steps of his career.”
Raiola started every game for Nebraska as a freshman and most every game as a sophomore until he suffered a season ending broken fibula on November 1 against USC. In his first year, Raiola threw for 2,819 yards with 13 TD and 11 INT with a QB rating of 129.9. At the time of his injury this year, Raiola had thrown for 2,000 yards, 18 TD and 6 INT with a rating of 158.6.
Raiola’s uncle Donovan Raiola was the offensive line coach for the Huskers but was fired recently by Head Coach Matt Rhule. Raiola’s brother Dayton had committed to Nebraska but changed his mind in November but has not announced where he is going.
When Raiola got hurt, Freshman T.J. Lateef moved into the starting role. In his first start against UCLA, Lateef was 13 of 15 passing for 205 yards and 3 TD in a 28-21 win. The next two games, however, Lateef threw no TDs and no INTs and the Huskers suffered blowout losses against Penn St. and Iowa. Senior Jalyn Gramstad is the current back-up and Redshirt Freshman Marcos Divila is the third stringer. There are two other QBs on the roster — Redshirt Freshman Bode Soukop and Junior Luke Longval. Nebraska did not add a quarterback on signing day.
