(Tama County, IA) — One of the Iowa Army National Guard soldiers killed in Syria has been identified. Meskwaki Nation Police Chief Jeffrey Bunn said his stepson, Nate Howard, was killed in the ISIS-led ambush in central Syria. Another soldier from Iowa was killed but has not been identified. Three other Iowa National Guard soldiers were injured in the attack, and an interpreter who was not from Iowa was pronounced dead. Syrian security forces killed the lone attacker.

The group was part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, based out of Boone, Iowa. The news conference was held Saturday night.
