(Lewis) Twenty-three state parks across the state will host New Year’s Day guided hikes with park staff and volunteers leading the way. John Lorenzen, appearing on the KSOM Radio DNR report, mentions a few options locally.
*Lake Anita State Park hike starts at 10:00 a.m. Meet at the east side of the beach parking lot. Hikes here will range from 1/3 mile to 4 and 3/8 miles. Friends of Lake Anita will provide snacks and drinks.
*Prairie Rose State Park. A hike starts there at 2:00 p.m. that day. Meet at the park office. That hike is two miles in length. Friends of Prairie Rose State Park usually provides hot cocoa and popcorn following the hike.
*Springbrook State Park. A hike starts at the park office at 1:00 p.m. The hike will be 2 miles long and will include information on the area’s geology and history. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available afterwards. To note, Springbrook turns 100 years old this year.
