(Atlantic) Atlantic, Creston, and Red Oak will face off in a dual wrestling meet at Red Oak on Thursday night. According to Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff, the matchups are particularly valuable as all three teams are in the same district for February’s competition, providing an early opportunity to gauge the opposition.
Coach Duff praises Coach Downing for doing an outstanding job at Creston, noting that he’ll have another strong team at tonight’s meet. He highlights Colt Key, who may be wrestling at 120 pounds, as a key player in the lineup. Duff recalls Key’s match against Keaton Schroeder from Atlantic in the conference finals last year. He also mentions Ben James, a tough sophomore who has been competing at 126 pounds. Lane Travis (138), one of the top ten wrestlers in the state, is another standout from Creston. Duff also points out solid wrestlers in the middle weights, including Phelps and Brammer. Coby Brammer (157) is a particularly tough competitor, as is Jose Avila (165), and Gunner Martwick, last year’s state qualifier at heavyweight, is another wrestler to watch.
Coach Duff runs down a list of the top Red Oak wrestlers.
Atlantic’s Braxton Hass is ranked sixth at 132, according to Hupke Productions, and Lane Travis of Creston is ranked 6th at 138.
The Atlantic, Creston, and Red Oak girls will also be wrestling at Red Oak tonight.
