(Creston) Douglas Daggett has been elected as the next mayor of Creston, according to unofficial results from the Union County Auditor’s Office following Tuesday’s special election. Daggett secured 290 votes, or approximately 39% of the total, leading the three-candidate field. Christopher Reindl earned 243 votes (32.7%), while Josh Thompson received 202 votes (27.1%). Additionally, eight write-in votes were cast, bringing the total number of ballots to 743.
Daggett will succeed Waylon Clayton, who resigned from the mayor’s office in September. While the Creston City Council initially planned to fill the vacancy by appointment, a petition with nearly 350 signatures pushed for a special election to determine the new mayor.
The Union County Supervisors will canvass the results on Tuesday, December 16.
