(Atlantic) Atlantic and Clarinda square off in a Hawkeye Ten Conference girls’ basketball game at Atlantic tonight. The Trojans are 2-2 on the season. The Cardinals enter the contest with a 3-1 record.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says Clarinda is athletic and returns almost their entire lineup from last season. Vargason says the Cardinals are under a new head coach, Jacob Privia, so that the philosophy may change somewhat.
Addison Wagoner leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game. Vargason says Wagoner does just about everything.
The Cardinals have a 6’1 post player, Carson Wellhausen.
Kylie Meier and Maddie Cole, a couple of seniors, average about eight points per game. Vargason says their strength is their three-point shooting.
Zoey Kirchhoff leads the Trojans in scoring, averaging 11.75 points per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc, with ten steals. Katrina Williams is averaging 7.25 points per game and averages seven rebounds per outing, along with eight steals. Makenna Schroeder is averaging 6.50 points per game.
The Cardinals are averaging 53.75 points per game; Atlantic is averaging 44.25.
