(Glenwood) Glenwood raced out to a fast start and never looked back in an 81-45 season-opening victory over Atlantic on Friday night.
Sophomore Evan Stanislav powered the Rams with a game-high 22 points. Jack Johnson contributed 12 points, while Colin Steele added 10. For Atlantic, Gavin McLaren scored 14 and Kale Jensen chipped in 10.
The Rams’ up-tempo attack paid off early as they built a 16-8 first-quarter advantage. Stanislav fueled the early surge with seven points in the opening frame, then added nine more in the second quarter while going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Steele provided a spark as well, knocking down a pair of threes on his way to a 10-point quarter that helped Glenwood stretch its lead heading into halftime leading 38-20.
Gage Gross and Sawyer Tarrell knocked down three point shots in the third quarter, but the Trojans could not match the Rams 44 second half points to secure the win. Glenwood scored 25-points off the bench. Bradley Hughes, and Caleb Schutte each scored nine points. Haze Stephens, 6, and Ryder Salazar, 1.
Besides McLaren’s 14, and Jensen’s 10-points, Hunter Nelson scored 7, Shelton Mualia, 6, Gage Gross, and Sawyer Tarrell, 3 each, and Hudson McLaren, and Corbin Ritter chipped in one each.
Atlantic falls to 0-2, and hosts Clarinda on Tuesday, December 9. Glenwood starts 1-0 and takes on Denison-Schleswig on Tuesday.
