(Lewis) Iowa’s first shotgun deer season is fast approaching. John Lorenzen with the DNR Office says deer tags are available for purchase.
Lorenzen says the first season runs from December 6 through December 10, and the second season runs from December 13 through December 21. He says the late muzzleloader season opens on December 22 and runs through January 10. He adds that there is a January antlerless season in some areas of the state, which runs from January 11 through January 25.
He says first-season license holders should check the regulation book to see which counties are buck-only, because the entire western tier of counties, plus some additional counties such as Shelby and Crawford, are buck-only during the first gun season. Lorenzen says this does not apply to landowner tags, just standard statewide tags.
