(Atlantic) As construction continues on the housing portion of the Vision Atlantic project, organizers have also reached a significant fundraising milestone for the initiative’s other components—the YMCA expansion and the new 300-capacity childcare development center. To unlock the Lakin Foundation’s $8.6 million grant, Vision Atlantic needed to secure 80 percent of the $39 million goal. According to Vision Atlantic Committee member Jessie Shiels, the committee has now successfully met that goal.
Reaching the 80-percent benchmark is significant, she explains, because it unlocks another major piece of Vision Atlantic’s investment in the community—the $8.6 million in grant funds designated specifically for the childcare development center and the YMCA expansion project. According to Shiels, all the pieces are finally starting to fall into place.
The next goal for Vision Atlantic is to reach 100 percent of its fundraising by December 31, 2026. Shiels says they do have a pathway to get to that 100 percent. She says the committee is still actively fundraising, not to mention opening doors to applying for different grants, while asking for community support for this transformative project.
That information is on the Vision Atlantic – Reshaping the Future of Atlantic, Iowa website. Giving Tuesday is on December 2. This is a Global Day of Generosity that unites people everywhere in supporting the causes they care about most, often in their communities.
Shiels invites businesses interested in displaying a framed sheet explaining the project on their countertop to contact Vision Atlantic via the website; Vision Atlantic will get those sheets to the respective businesses.
