(Oakland, IA) — Treynor is expected to run away with the girls basketball title in the Western Iowa Conference but not if Riverside has anything to say about it. The Bulldogs do lose four key seniors off last year’s 20-4 but Head Coach Mark Jeppesen has plenty of talent for his team to be competitive with the Cardinals. Juniors Sydney Somers (8.3 ppg) and Kayden Schnack (8.2 ppg) were the leading scorers on a balanced Bulldog team last year and Jeppesen says it will be similar this season
Seniors Karlie Miller (4.0), Adaline Martens (2.9) and Bailey Richardson all provide leadership and experience and will be in the rotation. Junior Sophia Fenner (6.6 ppg, 5.2 rbg) is the glue that holds the team together says Jeppesen. She is only 5 foot 4 but she can she can rebound like she is a foot taller
Jeppesen says that two Juniors will add something to the team as well — Lilli Reed is much improved and will see more playing time and Azzie Clark is a transfer from Seattle, Washington. Jeppesen likes his talent and his athleticism and they will try to take down Treynor in WIC but there’s other good teams as well
Riverside is ranked #14 in the the Pre Season Class 2A poll — the Bulldogs visit St. Albert in their opener tonight.
