(Nevada) Atlantic’s Haley Armstrong, (235) defended her number one seed winning by fall in the finals at the Central Iowa Varsity Kickoff on Saturday at Nevada. The senior drew a bye to the semi-finals and pinned Aysia Mosier of Ankeny in 30 seconds. Armstrong advanced to the championship match and won by fall over junior Kinley Jimenez of South Tama in 2:58 in the finals. Leiah Thomas, (155), finished in fifth place in the 33-team field. The Atlantic sophomore pinned Chloe Ruepke, of Chariton, in 2:42, followed up with a fall over Carly Wilkerson, of PCM, in 1:25, and fell short in the semi-finals to by fall to Taya Hollingsworth of BCLUW-SH in the quarterfinals. Thomas posted two pins in the consolation rounds to earn fifth place.
Elsewhere for Atlantic, Cadence Kinzie, (115), Alivia Knuth, (140), Lily Johnson, (145), and Josephine Miller, (170), each drew a bye in the first round, and bowed out of the tournament with a loss in round two.
The Trojans finished 13th overall in the large field with 62.5 points.
