(Lewis) Iowa snowmobile owners are no longer required to purchase and display an annual trail user permit.
John Lorenzen, of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, appearing on the KSOM DNR report, stated the new law merges the trail user permit into the annual snowmobile registration fee, allowing for a more streamlined process without increasing the cost. Lorenzen says the registration and permit fees for snowmobilers are deposited into a dedicated account for snowmobile programs in Iowa that support trail development, grooming, and signage.
Lorenzen notes that nonresident snowmobilers will still need to purchase and display the trail user permit, which is available at the County Recorders’ Office or at any location that sells fishing and hunting licenses.
