(Des Moines) Recently, reports have surfaced regarding a potential Thanksgiving blizzard that could bring significant snowfall. State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan shared his insights.
Dr. Glisan mentioned that he first noticed the speculation on social media a few days ago while reviewing the latest models in his office. He confirmed that a weather system is indeed moving across the upper Midwest.
He explained that these models typically provide forecasts ranging from 10 to 14 days, but they aren’t always reliable. Following inquiries on Monday, Glisan examined the data on the expected six to twelve inches of snow around Thanksgiving. While one model suggested this possibility, another indicated that there would be no snow until the first week of December.
Dr. Glisan advises relying on the National Weather Service forecasters and being cautious of information circulating on social media.
