(Carroll, IA) — Kuemper Catholic will play for a 2A Football state championship on Friday against Van Meter. The Knights last won a state title in 2013 while the Bulldogs won three straight championships in 2021, 22, and 23 and were runners up in 2019 and 2020. Kuemper’s passing game has been consistent all season long but got ramped up even more when QB Brock Badding threw for 275 yards and 2 TD in the quarterfinals against Cherokee — then exploded for 388 yards and 6 TD against Wilton in the semifinals. Knights Head Coach Ryan Steinkamp says you simply take what the defense gives you
Van Meter is led by Senior QB Henry Lounsbury and Sophomore RB Christian Williams. Lounsbury has thrown for about 1500 passing yards and 17 TD and run for 575 yards and 7 TD. Williams has 1,031 rushing yards and 16 TD and leads the defense with 78.5 tackles. Steinkamp says the Bulldogs defense does not beat themselves
Steinkamp says even though there is a lot on the line in the game he has emphasized to his kids to stay focused and not get overwhelmed
#1 Kuemper Catholic is 12-0, #6 Van Meter is 10-2, game time Friday morning is 10 am.
