(Avoca, IA) — ATU Girls Wrestling did not send anybody to the state tournament last year so that will be on everybody’s mind going into this season. ATU comprises three different schools — AHSTW, Tri Center and Underwood. Junior Annabel Baxter had the best record for the team going 22-8 but did not advance out of regionals. Head Coach Mark Hazen says she is poised to have a better season
Hazen expects improvements from three wrestlers in particular this year — Sophomore Chloe Junge went 13-20 and two wrestlers are coming back from injuries — Junior Trinity Bret (Bray) went 11-5 and Junior Sophia Hazen went 7-3 who dislocated her shoulder and tried to come back but Coach Hazen says she has worked her way back
Hazen says there are six wrestlers from Underwood, 3 from Tri Center and 4 from AHSTW. Hazen says they rotate their practices at each three schools. He also says that the team will move down from Class 2A
ATU opens their season this Saturday at the Western Iowa tournament in Onawa.
