(Red Oak) — In July, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved a Memorandum of Understanding allocating Opioid Settlement Funds to Resilient Recovery Counseling. Under the agreement, the County committed to providing $3,000 per month to the organization, contingent upon meeting a series of strict requirements.
In October, Resilient Recovery Services representative Richard Mullen, appearing before the board of supervisors, stated that the biggest challenge is getting the word out about their services, which officially began in mid-September.
On Tuesday, Mullen provided an update to the supervisors. He will soon begin working with six middle school students on the Individual Resiliency Training Program to address some behavioral issues. He recently spoke with two people in Red Oak interested in signing up for the program, which brings the total to eight people he will be working with continuously.
Mullen has engaged in discussions with the clerk of court to collaborate with individuals who have been charged and placed on probation. He is also focusing on family reunification, which includes working with grandparents, addressing criminal thinking, managing anger, conducting outreach to local businesses, and providing education on Narcan. Additionally, Mullen mentioned that Nishna Productions reached out to him for assistance in supporting their agency, which works with people with disabilities.
Mullen says the primary focus has been meeting with the community and assuring their service is available.
