(Harlan, IA) — The Harlan girls wrestling team is quite thin on numbers this season but Cyclones fans will be anxious to see what Elle Stephens can do in her sophomore season. Last year as a freshman, Stephens went all the way to the 126 finals where she ran into Molly Allen of Riverside finishing an undefeated high school career. Still, a 33-7 and runner up finish is not a bad way to start her high school career and Head Coach Tarah Lawler believes Stephens learned a lot from wrestling Allen
Lawler says it will be interesting to see how the 126 pound weight class evolves with Allen gone. Lawler is also excited about how Stephens success can help with the development of the other wrestlers on the team and young and upcoming ones as well
There are only 3 more girls on the team this year for Harlan — Junior Hallie Lopez was 6-19 last year; Sophomore Danica Schwery was 5-20 and Senior Alexa Powers is going out for the sport this year.
Lawler says they have very good numbers at the junior high level — Harlan opens the season this Saturday at Ridge View
