(Onawa, Iowa) Iowa continues to face one of the most urgent cancer challenges in the country, currently ranking second nationwide in cancer incidence. To elevate local voices and advance meaningful, community-driven solutions, state legislators are inviting residents to a bipartisan listening session focused on how cancer impacts Iowa families. The event will be hosted by Burgess Health Center.
Event Details:
Date: Tuesday, December 2
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: Burgess Health Center – Dining Room
1600 Diamond St, Onawa, IA 51040
This session is part of a bipartisan series launched earlier this year to give Iowans a dedicated platform to share personal cancer experiences and offer ideas for change. These conversations are already helping shape policy. Public input played a key role in halting legislation that would have granted immunity to manufacturers of cancer-causing chemicals and in advancing measures that improve access to cancer screening and treatment.
The discussion will be facilitated by Lynn Wold, CEO of Burgess Health Center, with participation from Senator Kevin Alons and Representative Dr. Megan Srinivas. Community members will also share their perspectives, including Woodbury County resident Doyle Turner, who noted:
“As the third generation affected by cancer, I think it is time that we have a statewide, candid conversation. ‘Conversation is a catalyst for innovation.’ – John Seely Brown.”
The event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, family members, caregivers, and anyone affected by cancer.
