(Corning, IA) — The Southwest Valley Timberwolves improved from a 1-7 season last year to a 3-5 record this year which included key wins over Red Oak, Central Decatur, and Nodaway Valley. Despite some notable injuries to key players, head coach Keegan Longabough says the program took a big step in the right direction:
Wyatt Mendenhall was in line to be the quarterback for the Timberwolves for the year, but ongoing injuries for the senior forced sophomore Wyatt Shires to step into the role. Shires threw for over 500 yards on the season and rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Along with Mendenhall, Longabough is graduating five other seniors who will need to be replaced, including two other offensive players in the skill positions:
The Timberwolves also took on an identity change during the season and ended up using the air much more than they anticipated:
Southwest Valley fell just short of the postseason in the competitive Class A District 7 and will look to continue the upward trend in the 2026-2027 season.
