(Griswold, IA) — Griswold will have their own girls wrestling program hit the mat this year for the first time ever. Originally part of SWAT, Griswold wrestled with Red Oak last season but new Head Coach Alicia Dofner has between 11-15 wrestlers coming out for the sport this year. She says there are still a few that are on the fence about participating. Donfer is from Griswold and is excited about giving girls the opportunity to wrestle which did not exist when she was going to school
Griswold has three wrestlers with experience — Junior Abbi Henderson was 13-19 last year, Sophomore Zoey Baker and Freshman Adalynn Phelps all have been on the mat
Dofner’s daughter Alexis is a senior and goes from the dance team to wrestling mat this year. The rest of the team is freshmen so Dofner does not have many goals this season — she says there are many skills to develop
Griswold will open their wrestling season at a tournament hosted by Southwest Valley on November 22nd.
