Class 5A
#1 Waukee Northwest 3, #5 Ankeny 0 (25-12,25-15, 25-20)
The Wolves advance to the championship game for the third straight year with a three set sweep of the Hawks. Logan Vogt led the way with 19 kills and a .382 hitting percentage while Piper Ladwig added 10 kills. Avery Vogt had 38 assists and Northwest (37-1) had 8 total aces. Waukee NW won the title in 2023 and were runners up a year ago. Ankeny finishes their season at 28-9.
#2 Ankeny Centennial 3, #6 Valley 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20)
It will be the top two seeds in the 5A finals as the Jaguars get the sweep. Centennial (34-5) had a balanced scoring effort with 8 kills each from Tatum Schmidt and Sophia Heither, 7 kills from Ellie Pollack, Mady Ott had 6 and Maegan Cheeseman had 5 kills. The Tigers finish their season at 28-13.
Class 4A
#2 Sioux Center 3, #3 Pella 0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23)
The Warriors will have a chance to win their first ever volleyball state title by sweeping the Dutch. Courtney Schmidt led Sioux Center (30-4) with 10 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Maryn Franken had 9 kills at a .471 clip and 4 aces. Pella’s season ends at 32-11.
#5 North Scott 3, #1 Clear Creek Amana 2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13)
The first number one seed of the state tournament fell as the Lancers go to the title game for the 2nd time in 3 years. North Scott (26-10) trailed 13-10 in the 5th set but scored 5 straight points to win it. McKenzie Moeller led the Lancers with 31 kills and 17 digs. Addison Allen had 55 assists as North Scott will meet Sioux Center for the 4A title. The Clippers end their season at 42-4.
Class 3A
#2 Davenport Assumption 3, #6 Kuemper Catholic 1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16)
It was the battle of the Knights and after KC took the opening set, Assumption dominated from there to end Kuemper’s season at 32-3. Ellah Derrer led Assumption with 18 kills and Belle Cotton added 11. Piper Hodge had 35 digs for Davenport (27-7). KC was led by Addy Anthofer with 11 kills, Kolbi Peter had 8 kills and Mariah Heuton added 7.
#5 Humboldt 3, #1 Hull Western Christian 2 (16-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 15-13)
Another #1 seed falls as the Wildcats upset the Wolfpack. Humboldt led 13-9 in the 5th set but HWC came back to tie it 13-13 but a Mia Schluter kill got the Wildcats a side out and an attack error by Hull on match point ended it. Adelynn Goodell led Humboldt (33-6) with 21 kills and Schluter added 11 kills. Western Christian’s season ends at 38-10.
Class 2A
#1 Denver 3, #4 Grundy Center 1 (25-16, 25-17, 19-25, 26-24)
The Cyclones lost just their 9th set of the season but will go for back-to-back state titles. Denver (49-1) was led by Bailey Mullihan and Adeana Murch with 15 kills; Grace Mullihan had 12 kills and Channing Johnson finished with 11. Grundy Center ends their season at 36-10.
#3 Hinton 3, #2 Dike New Hartford 1 (25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17)
The Blackhawks have never won a state volleyball title but they were runners up in 2023. Hinton (30-2) was led by Bailey Boeve’s 30 kills. Seven different players were in double figures in digs. The Wolverines season ends at 39-10.
Class 1A
#1 Saint Ansgar 3, #4 Dunkerton 0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-22)
Taylor Kipp had 11 kills and hit a solid .409 efficiency to lead the Saints to the state finals for the first time in school history. Saint Ansgar is now 30-4 while the Raiders finish up at 30-12
#2 Janesville 3, #3 North Tama 0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-14)
The Wildcats will be going for their 6th state title and first since 2018 with a three set sweep of the Redhawks. Quinn Sweeney led Janesville (33-11) with 14 kills. North Tama ends their season at 29-14.
