(Washington, D.C.) Glen R. Smith of Atlantic is heading to a confirmation hearing on Wednesday, November 5, as President Trump’s nominee to be the next Under Secretary of Rural Development at USDA.
Smith has spent most of his life in rural America, engaged in farming and agri-business. In recent years, Glen has served on the Board of Directors of the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C.
The Under Secretary for Rural Development is a high-ranking official in the United States Department of Agriculture, serving as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Agriculture and responsible for overseeing the department’s rural development programs and policies. The president of the United States appoints the undersecretary with the consent of the United States Senate.
Smith went through this same process eight years ago, before his service on the Board of Directors of the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C., where he continues to serve.
Smith has met with senators from both parties and says their discussions have been positive.
U.S. Ag Secretary Rollins states at USDA, we are ensuring American agriculture will be strong, secure, and resilient by safeguarding our food supply, strengthening critical infrastructure, and defending U.S. agricultural innovation from foreign adversaries. We need all of our Senate-confirmed nominees in the building as soon as possible. We have no time to waste to save our family farms.”
Glen and wife Fauzan’s four grown children, and one grandchild, will be in attendance at the Confirmation hearing scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. Central Standard time.
