(Des Moines) The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa fell slightly this week, while diesel prices saw a notable increase, according to the latest Weekly Fuel Report from AAA.
Regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.80 per gallon across the state, down 1 cent from last week and 11 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price for regular unleaded was $3.04, down 3 cents from the previous week.
Meanwhile, diesel prices in Iowa rose 12 cents this week, reaching a statewide average of $3.53 per gallon. That’s 15 cents below the national average of $3.68, but still 14 cents higher than diesel prices a year ago, which averaged $3.39.
In the crude oil market, prices climbed this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose $2.19 to $60.88 per barrel, while Brent crude increased $2.45 to $65.18 per barrel. Both benchmarks remain below last year’s levels when WTI sold for $67.48 and Brent for $71.09.
For heating fuels, natural gas prices were up 41 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site, currently averaging $3.85 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). In Iowa, propane averaged $1.52 per gallon, and home heating oil prices held at a statewide average of $3.16 per gallon.
